In an ongoing study of North Carolina firefighters, Duke University researchers are examining a potential link between PFAS exposure and biomarkers of thyroid dysfunction and disease. This study includes trifluoroacetic acid (TFA), a degradation product of some fluorine-containing gases and other substances, and it is one of the first studies to investigate human health outcomes related to TFA exposure.
