The durian, native to Singapore and Southeast Asia, is known as the King of Fruits. Yet, it has a mixed reputation in Singapore, with some chasing down the best harvests while others abstain from it religiously. Elliot and Rovik explore the complexity of the Durian, including:

  • how the British, with the exception of an influential Sir Stamford Raffles, actually celebrated the durian
  • what the Durio Singaporensis (or Singapore Durian) is and why it's not in the same bucket as the Mao Shan Wang type
  • whether you can actually have durians and alcohol together.
