This is a hefty episode. It is audio only, and in it I try to explore the subject of racial discrimination and the n-word in good faith, and in an effort to understand history better. For black history month, I'm ready to explore ideas that I wasn't quite ready to explore a year ago for lack of understanding. Today we read a short story written by Flannery O'Connor which deals with themes of pride, ignorance, mercy, forgiveness and redemption framed in the culture of the south in the civil rights era. The name of the short story, as well as the content of the story, contain use of the n-word in the context of the era and geographical setting in which the story takes place. In this show the story is read as it is written, and the only time the n-word are used is when it appears in the story as written by author Flannery O'Connor. I mean no offense, and this episode is a good faith attempt to understand the impact of the word on history, and an exploration of context and it's importance in understanding and building bridges between us. I hope you enjoy and listen with an open mind.
