Dying of Thirst SERMON RECAP

Listen Later

John 4:7-15John 4:39-42The world is dying of thirst. Longing for real spiritual life and renewal. This week Pastor Jeremy led us as we explored Jesus' interaction with the woman at the well.1. God so Loves the World Jesus reveals Himself to someone rather surprising, a promiscuous Samaritan woman. In fact she's the first person in John's Gospel He reveals himself plainly as the Messiah to. God's heart was not to love a select few or to restore the earthly kingdom of Israel. In this moment Jesus shows God's love for the world and His heart to bring salvation to the least of all people. If you feel like the least, God loves you, desires you, and desires to reach you. Of you are in relationship with God we must join Him in mission. If God has the lost on His heart, we better too.2. The World Longs for Living WaterIn John 4:13 Jesus says " Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life." Jesus does not beat around the bush, He offers the only thing that will satisfy the human soul. Jesus then confronts her sin, while inviting her into eternal relationship with God. He invites her to worship God in Spirit and Truth, not location, but heart, mind and soul. The world does not long for a program or system, the true heart cry of the lost is the longing for true spiritual life, Living Water.3.Share Your StoryIn John 4:39-42 the woman simply testifies " He told me all that I ever did." and many other Samaritans believed. They said, " It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the Savior of the world." It's easy for us to think that we have to win people over to Christ with our knowledge and in depth apologetics. Apologetics is helpful and useful to defend the faith. But we weren't called to win arguments, we were called to win hearts with Jesus. For the Samaritan woman, proclaiming what Jesus did for her was all that she knew to do. She probably didn't have extensive knowledge of torah or the prophets. She didn't need to. She simply told her story, and Jesus did the rest. What story can you tell?God so loves you. He offers His Living Water. Experience the welling up of His spring in you. And tell someone your story. We love you church, until next time.
