The Danger Zone (DZ)

DZ Season 017 Part 01 Australian SAS War Crimes Afghanistan - Defence Personnel

Listen Later

A story has broken concerning allegations of Australian Defence Personnel having been involved in war crimes. In the present age it seems that more often than not that an allegation is treated as if it was the sames as a conviction, only without a trial.

While that’s acceptable, and normal, in socialist regimes like Communist China and North Korea, the former Soviet Union, it has never been the way things are done in this country.

A person’s reputation is a precious thing. It is easily lost. The reputation of one of Australia’s most important institutions, the Australian Defence Forces is also easily lost when hasty and ill-informed allegations are made as if they’re the findings of a court of law.

It’s to Australia’s credit that it raises the issues of these allegations publicly. In 1940 the socialist regime of the Soviet Union butchered 22,000 Polish officers in the Katyn Woods in Poland and spent the next years, after the massacre was uncovered by the Germans in 1943, trying to shift the blame onto the Germans. All of the bodies were riddled with bullets from Russian weapons and overwhelming evidence, no longer disputed, showed that this was a Communist slaughter.

So let’s look at the allegations that have now been made against the Australian Defence Forces with a cool head, applying the principle of the Anglo-Saxon legal process that a person is innocent of a crime until proven guilty in a court of law.
