Welcome to the final episode of this month's theme on Advocacy as a First Gen! In this episode of The First Gen Madrina Podcast, I reflect on my personal journey with advocacy as a first-generation professional. I dive into the cultural and historical barriers many first-gens face when learning to advocate for themselves, while offering relatable anecdotes and insights.

I share my experiences growing up as a Latina and how familial fears and societal expectations shaped my early views on speaking up. I also discuss the gaps in education around self-advocacy and why it’s crucial to teach these skills in schools.

In the Social Work with Sara segment, I explore the emotional impact advocacy can have on mental health, both positively and negatively, and I offer practical advice for pacing yourself on this journey.
