In this podcast episode, the focus is on bite-sized micro-learning and its impact on offshore oil rigs.
Nuala shares a recent experience of running micro-learning sessions on a rig where one of the heads of departments approached her, expressing concern about a team member who was competent but ostracised from the team due to their lack of people skills.
After running a bridging cultures session followed by a team development session, which led to the team having intimate conversations that wouldn't have happened otherwise, the ostracised team member began engaging with the team and felt included, which emphasised the importance of creating a safe space for conversation and asking the right questions to bridge differences between team members.
We discuss the need for flexibility in micro-learning sessions, which should be tailored to meet each team's specific needs, as not all teams require the same type of learning. Observing and identifying what each team needs to achieve their goals is essential.
The success of bite-sized micro-learning sessions on offshore oil rigs relies on creating a safe space for conversation, asking the right questions, and tailoring learning to meet the specific needs of each team.
