Life is a balancing act, but what happens when you’ve got so much on your plate? Today’s guest, Michelle Edgar, is a perfect example of how discipline and resilience can help you balance everything you do in life. And it’s all about the power of intention.
When COVID hit, Michelle took the opportunity to focus on her personal growth, getting into law school and training on the track. In fact, she lost 30 pounds after four months of running, which not only impacted her physically, but she gained more clarity. All that, on top of her passion projects Music Unites, a non-profit organization funding sustainable music education programs in underserved public schools, as well as The XX Project, a social platform that inspires and empowers women in business through resources and tools to enhance their lives and propel their business forward.
Here are some power takeaways from today’s conversation:
Episode Highlights:
Finding Your Tribe
Surround yourself with great people who support what you’re doing. Find your tribe of people who can help you see something even when you can’t see it yourself. There’s already too much noise in our own head that sometimes it can stop us from doing things, so you definitely don't need to hear all the other negative voices out there.
Balancing Everything in Your Life
Be very intentional with your time. Sometimes, it's not about having more time, but it’s about being smarter and more strategic with your time. Carve out your time and see what works for you. You also have to be very honest with the way you divide up your plate and be intentional about what's on it, whether it’s your personal life or professional life.
Understand what you do and how you waste time in a day. Figure out a way to work smarter and re-strategize how you approach your day and accomplish certain tasks. Be strategic with your goals and then set the timelines.
Finding Your Mentors
The biggest gift is to have somebody to push you. A mentor could be someone older or younger, regardless, just make sure to be open when you're seeking help. It also requires a strong level of commitment and discipline on your part in order for significant change to happen. So be ready for it!
