I have recently listened to the book Attached by Amir Levine and Rachel Heller. I highly recommend it as it explains attachment styles and why we have them. It also gives practical guides and real-life scenarios on how to navigate your style in relationships. I myself am an avoidant style & damn determined to learn not to be. I have learned that if I am to have deep, connected, loving relationships, I have to let myself be vulnerable to other people. Not easy to do when my first reaction is to put up a wall and shut people out. It is a defense mechanism from long before I can remember, is no longer needed and for sure not serving me well. Today I talk about how to recognize your fear when connection comes close - realize and remind yourself that the fear of closeness is unfounded - and let yourself be vulnerable to letting others in. The risk? Getting hurt. But the bigger risk, at least for me, is not letting anyone in at all and missing out on the most fulfilling, loving, connected relationships in life.
