Catch Ups In My Kitchen

E.137 Navigating Gut Health with Dr. Emily Prpa

Listen Later

In my kitchen this week I am joined by Dr Emily Prpa who is a Registered Nutritionist at Yakult, gut experts for 90 years. She holds a PhD in Nutritional Sciences from King’s College London, where she is also a visiting lecturer. Her research explores how the gut microbiome impacts various aspects of our heath, and has been published in high-impact scientific journals and presented internationally.

I wanted to sit down with Emily to try and navigate some of the noise that is out there and de-bunk some of the myths and trends. The wellness space can be so confusing from what brands are telling us on their packaging to what influencers are telling us online and sometimes you just don't know where to turn in order to make the right decisions and particularly in the month of January when the wellness noise is particularly loud!

Emily and I go through the importance of gut health and how to optimise your gut health whilst also touching on some of the many health and wellness trends you see online and whether they have actual health benefits or are just a myth

We cover the following topics:

  • Gut Health and why it's important
  • How to optimise your gut health
  • Eating 30+ plants a week
  • Green Powders
  • Science washing within the wellness industry
  • Intermittent fasting
  • Lemon Water
  • Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Fermented Foods
  • Carnivore Diet
  • The pillars of wellness
