Being a security guard can be a fulfilling job for the right kind of person. It can be very flexible and in many instances one can work part-time.  

Although there can be a low barrier to entry, being entrusted with the safety of others is of utmost importance to this career. 

Whether you're in a retail environment, corporate or residential, doing loss prevention (just looking for people who are shoplifting), or doing executive protection as a body guard, being in the security industry involves using a lot of common sense. If you already know how to show up to work on time and be respectful of your colleagues, this job might be right for you. 

The competition can also be intense so it's important to supplement your skillset.
