Elaine O’Hara disappeared on August 22, 2012 after being discharged from St. Edmondsbury Hospital, where she’d been staying after calling the hospital to tell them she’d made a noose to hang herself. Elaine battled with self-harm, poor self esteem, and poor mental health her entire life. In 2006  she turned to the various websites where she sought sanctuary in the BDSM community. Through her involvement, she met architect Graham Dwyer, the man who would become her master, telling her what to do, how to do it, when to do it, and punishing her when his commands weren’t met. What she couldn’t realize upon meeting him was that he was a complete sadist, one who would ultimately murder her 5 years later. The crime is widely said to have almost been the perfect murder. Her body wasn’t found until over a year after the crime, and Graham nearly escaped charges, until is trial and conviction in 2015.
