EPS 17: Why You Should Eat the Ugliest Frog First
In this episode, you will learn:
Mark Twain once said: "If it's your job to eat a frog, the best thing to do is eat it first thing in the morning. And if your job is to eat two frogs, it's best to eat the biggest one first. Eating the frog means to just do it. Otherwise, the frog will eat you."
So, what is the frog? The frog is an important thing you have to do that you've been putting off. It may be a big, ugly task or conversation that's taking up mental real estate. Other times it's a few things that sit on our to-do list day after day. Sometimes the frog may not even make it to your to-do list because you don’t want to see it! No matter what, that “frog” is always in the back of our mind.
At the root of it, frogs are usually based in fear. It might be fear of having the hard conversation, or getting bad news, finally knowing the truth or getting in over your head. People can feel so overwhelmed by their frogs and think that the frog will take hours or days to eat. Spoiler alert: Often it takes 20 minutes or less!
Here’s the big thing to remember: the frogs never go away. No matter how much you avoid or hide from them, they will hop all over your subconscious and distract you. And frogs multiply. Even high performers have frogs, but they eat their frogs faster. And, you can too.
