Between 1850 - 1923 two religious organizations, one Catholic, and one Protestant noted that many orphans in the big eastern cities had no homes. The two organizations arranged for homes in the mid-west on farms and farther west with parents seeking children. So the orphan trains moved children westward for better homes and maybe not for better homes. Judye Ruffo joins us. Her mother was one of the orphans sent westward.
