Iranian security officials reportedly assisted Hamas in organizing and approving the recent attack on Israel, according to the Wall Street Journal. The attack, planned August with the involvement of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard and senior Hamas and Hezbollah members, resulted in one of the deadliest breaches of Israel's borders in years. Hundreds of civilians and soldiers were taken hostage as Hamas targeted villages and towns near Gaza. Hamas, a Shiite militant group controlling Gaza, and Hezbollah, an Iranian-backed political faction in Lebanon, played significant roles in the attack.
