E179: Practicing Until You Can’t Get It Wrong with Phil Friedrich

Listen Later

Phil Friedrich is a financial advisor with Northwestern Mutual and the co-owner of Omaha-based PassGo Real Estate. He's also the fabulous host of the Who Knew in the Moment podcast.

Growing up, Phil was always very entrepreneurial, wanting to make money. At an early age, he was taught the work ethic of not only going above and beyond what you need to do to make extra money but also, how to manage money. At 21, Phil bought his first rental property.

Here are some power takeaways from today’s conversation:

  • Phil’s eureka moment in investing
  • Realizing the power of visualization
  • Buying an asset and having someone pay it off for him
  • Getting past the fear of failures
  • Adding value in his business through podcasting
  • The great relationships created from podcasting
  • How he embraced the F word
  • Episode Highlights:

    Choosing the Career You Want

Figure out what are careers you can go into where you don't have a boss or you don't have to be somewhere at a specific time and where you get some flexibility. Most people go for the salary and the paycheck but others would rather have some freedom, which real estate investing can give you.

Adding Value in His Business Through Podcasting

The premise behind his podcast is that as you're living life, very rarely in the moments, do you realize the magnitude of them. However, in hindsight, you look back and you realize how pivotal was that for you to try this or for you to be able to do that. Trying to figure out how to create special moments for people while knowing how he loves people's stories, Phil decided to combine these two things.

With podcasting, the amount of results you get back depends on the effort you put in. You can't just expect to have a massive following after only three episodes.

    The Art of Embracing Failures

Don't ask yourself, can I or can't I? Or should I or shouldn't I? Instead, ask yourself – Am I capable? And if you’re capable and it’s something that interests you, then try it right. What's the worst that can happen? Also, when you learn to embrace your failures, you learn to get better at whatever it is you’re doing. Don't practice something until you get it right. Practice until you can't get it wrong.
