Overview
On September 27, Hurricane Helene tore through Augusta, Georgia, leaving devastation in its wake. For me, it meant losing my car but keeping my life. For others, it meant unimaginable loss—homes destroyed, lives taken, and futures forever changed.
Natural disasters remind us of the fragility of life and the indiscriminate nature of suffering. In this episode, we explore how to bring our grief, anger, and disappointment to God.
To guide our reflection, we turn to a story of an unexpected disaster in the Bible—Job’s wife. Often dismissed or misunderstood, Mrs. Job offers us a raw, honest perspective on loss and grief. Through a fictional retelling of her story, we are invited to reflect on how we process our struggles and to bring everything—even our most difficult emotions—to God in prayer.
This episode is a sacred space to sit with your emotions, process your experiences, and trust God with your everything.
Prayer Practice
This episode includes a guided prayer practice using Vita Fabula, which means “life story” in Latin. Through this imaginative retelling of Mrs. Job’s story, you are invited to connect with God, reflect on your own experiences, and bring your burdens to God in prayer.
Reflection Questions
Closing Prayer
God, when disasters come, remind us that it’s okay to bring our pain and disappointment to You. Help us to release the false notion that we must always be strong at all costs. Reassure us, Lord, that You can handle all our emotions—even our anger. Teach us to trust that the pathway to wholeness begins with allowing You to hold us. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
