In celebration of our 200th episode, my dear friend and host of the True Multifamily podcast, Justin Fraser, will interview me and we’re going to take you behind the scenes from my life to my business over the past four years.
Starting this show on my phone in the basement, this journey has been a great learning experience. There were also so many opportunities that came from the birth of this show. From discovering partnerships to nurturing relationships, it helped grow my company and myself as an individual.
Thank you for helping me understand the world as I continue to learn through others, and I’m also honored to be your guide in helping you navigate through your own story of success.
Here are some power takeaways from today’s conversation:
Why a podcast?
Why impression matters
The growth of our tribe
The power of hiring the right people
Figuring out what we do best
Knowing when to say yes
The importance of clearly defining the roles in your business
Episode Highlights:
[05:43] Why a Podcast?
This podcast was created as a place for everyone to go and get answers to their questions relating to real estate investing. It's an interesting story to document and an interesting way to inspire others as I figure things out. With no real intention of building a personal brand, it all started to come together.
[10:33] Why Impression Matters
When I got into the real estate investing space, one of the things that shocked me when I was walking into the room was how casual they looked.
Your brand is you. You are the physical manifestation of what you represent in your company. The clients and customers trust you with their life savings, and you walking around in sweatpants just doesn't make sense. It's not just about giving out a shiny business card, but you also have to step into the room and own it.
[25:09] Getting the Right People in Your Team
You don't need to motivate motivated people. If you get the right people on the bus, and you start to build a business or roll around their specific needs and desires and passions, that's the game-changer. Find the core people that get your vision and want to be part of something that they have to take a risk on.
[06:06] The Power of Saying No
When you say yes to everything, it becomes a distraction. Say no to things, even if they're six-figure opportunities if they're not in your wheelhouse. Just because people want to work with you doesn't necessarily mean you can do what they're asking, well. Focus on your strengths, build on those strengths, and find people around you that complement your strengths.
