As a kid, I, like many, ripped music off Napster and Limewire, downloaded it to my desktop and then burned it onto CDs.

Since Sean Parker disrupted the music industry with Napster, the distribution of music has evolved greatly and landed us in a world of subscription services which give listeners unlimited access to millions of songs whenever they want to hear them - there’s Apple Music, Amazon music, Tidal, Youtube music, the biggest player - Spotify and many more. 

But, how are these platforms taking care of their creators financially? What type of negotiating power does an artist have with a major platform like Spotify?

My guest today, Brandon Tory, is looking to completely overhaul the way creators are valued for their shared content with his company FORMLESS.

Brandon’s worked for Apple & Google and has spent as many years as a hiphop artist as he has coding, so formless really is the perfect blend of his two life focuses which are tech and music. And it’s fitting because I believe at the backbone of both good music and well designed tech is the aim to bring people together.

On the 1st episode of our 2nd season, Brandon shares with us how he got into hiphop, Silicon Valley and most importantly how his company FORMLESS will leverage blockchain to shift the way creators are forever compensated for their art.
