“Be yourself, and use your voice. You never know...Don’t underestimate how important your voice or presence could be for somebody else. People ARE watching...People ARE paying attention and maybe somebody will see or hear something you said and they’ll be inspired.” ~Ben Chan
**** Ben Chan, a graduate of New York Law School, was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He is the grandson of refugees and the son of immigrants. As Ben grew up in New York City during the 80s and 90s, he developed an interest and love of history. He read and was deeply influenced by the autobiography of Malcom which has shaped his present day desire to create genuinely inclusive running spaces . Ben endeavors to help runners who are trying to bridge the gap between the Black Indigenous People of Color running culture and the persistently white running world. He is grateful for Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi, the Black women who created the Black Lives Matter Foundation, Inc (https://blacklivesmatter.com) and ignited a movement for the equality of and justice for black and brown people all over the world. Ben is a living kidney donor and before surgery, Ben decided to lead a more active lifestyle to care for his remaining kidney. Since then, Ben has run several marathons and ultramarathons. Ben doesn't keep track of the number races he's run or his finish times. He says he's slow, and that's okay with him. Ben is married to Chevon Stewart, a Dance Movement Professor at Antioch University, where they recently moved. He is also proud to be Jack Chan's older brother.**** You can find Ben on Instagram @malerunner (https://www.instagram.com/malerunner/)***
