Quayde joins up on a sprinter van mission to Guitar Center with Cruz Contreras, songwriter and frontman for The Black Lillies. This Knoxville-based band was on a Texas run, making their farthest stop out in Lubbock. Cruz tells us about his bluegrass roots and studying jazz piano at the University of Tennessee. He’s taken these elements, thrown in some country, and fused it all together to form The Black Lillies’ sound. Music is all vibrations, art and science. We hear the origins of the band name, and get the news that in September they’ll be dropping a new album they recorded up at Echo Mountain, a well-known studio housed in an old church in Asheville.
