Listen Later

At the African Art Book Fair in Dakar, we talk to photographer and writer Samuel Nja Kwa, who is here to present his new book on Manu Dibango, "Soul Makossa Man".

Samuel talks about connections between the development of jazz, slavery and civil rights, and on the legacy of jazz as a music of emancipation.

A musical conversation recorded, edited and mixed by Graeme Thomson & Silvia Maglioni with interventions from Fofana, Spooky, Armstrong, Monk, Scott, Moor Mother, Bowie, Morton, Graves, Ayler, Roach, Lincoln, Roberts, Art Ensemble, Shabaka and Davis.

Thank you, Samuel!
