In today's episode we take a DEEP DIVE into the world of protein. We answer all the questions: what is protein, where do we find it, are some sources better than others, what are proper portion sizes, how much do we need in general versus how much do you personally need as a person in recovery. We discuss the role that digestion plays in isolating and utilizing the amino acids we get from protein to support mood, recovery, cravings etc. We discuss the connection between protein and neurotransmitters. We answer the questions: Can one get enough protein on a plant based diet? Is grazing a healthy dietary pattern? I take a few moments to step onto a protein soapbox, and then we digress into some practical steps you can take today to improve your protein intake status! This is a long one folks, we are working on shortening future episodes, but you may want to listen to this one in two different sessions, just a tip! Remember to check out Recovery U on the website www.theaddictionnutritionist.com for more information about signing up for our online community where we'll meet to discuss podcast episodes, walk through the steps of implementing the PAWS protocol, and provide live group coaching for all your health and wellness in recovery needs. I hope you'll join us!
