"The only reason a lot of technology is monopolized rather than democratized is the bar is so high to get in. But now... you can get more or less any type of technology fairly cheap. Even if it's not the utmost cutting-edge tech, you can still get it and tweak it, hack it, and make it perform stuff that wasn't supposed to. And, find new areas of use."

On this episode of HYPERSCALE, I am joined by Jowan Österlund, a body piercer turned biotech entrepreneur, who's become one of the most vocal advocates of the biohacking movement in Sweden and the world. He is the CEO of Biohax International, and currently leads commercial biohacking in Sweden with his vision of seamless interaction between humans and technology. 

In this conversation, Jowan discusses the democratization of technology, and the socioeconomic obstacles present today that hinder certain tech developments from becoming affordable, accessible and mainstream. He also weighs in on the data economy, and how we've come to willingly give up our data with nothing to show for it. In addition, he attempts to untangle the negative connations people have come to associate with biohacking, thanks to sci-fi media that often depicts this technology with dystopian undertones.
