Log in for the a deep dive into reaping all the benefits of insider tips of online community! A first introduction into support as a young adult with chronic illness/disability often means using social media or nonprofits as a way to connect with others that are living similar health struggle experiences. But let’s be real, as we are teens and young adults, making friendships and bonds virtually can feel as awkward as a blind date, and we’ve got no handbook on how to master people an individual wanting a support network that gets it…until now. That’s what InvisiYouth’s platform is all about, and we’ve got a special guest on this episode that also specializes in authentic support online, the founder of the media/events company and online community ChroniCon, Nitika Chopra! Living with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis along with her wide career in TV, her online magazine and podcasting, Nitika believes wellness and empowerment can be fused together when part of a community, and now her company provides workshops and content focused on support. In this episode, Dominique and Nitika get to chat about Nitika’s go-to karaoke song, the one thing she wish she invented and why Nitika’s first job only lasted a couple days. They dive into the reasons online community should be recommended to every older youth with a chronic illness/disability, what initial steps all you introverts can make into virtual friendships and comradery (any why the online dating mindset is the way to go) and their top three tips for family/friends that wanna have supportive conversations that aren’t all focused on your health. And our intermission “So That One Time” storytime is all about Nitika’s journey dreaming up for goal of a TV show becoming a reality. And she may give the best episode quote about how her and Dominique are chronic illness ninjas, and you can be one too! Part Two of InvisiYouth Chat Sessions gets deep with advice and fun motivation as Dominique and Nitika explain the how-to’s with combatting loneliness that sometimes follows you relying on virtual community, the best way to handle the cycle of pessimism or complaining that can fill online chronic illness communities, and their pieces of advice to break through that bogged down feeling on social media when you need some selfcare in a world all focused on virtual. And InvisiYouth’s ‘fly on a wall theory’ is discussed and we know you’ll want to add it to the backburner when following new people on Instagram. We got you in the ways you can DM slide, how to make a comment, and how to feel safe and comfortable on your socials when wanting to interact with new people in chronic illness/disability communities. And we end off the episode with these ladies making their life toolkit that you will be taking notes on 100% because it will improve your daily life.
