Mistake: People tend to look at their website only from the marketing perspective and totally ignore the usability.
Fix: Take the user experience and usability into account as well.

Mistake: Dropdown menus on navigation.
Fix: Condense navigation to remove sub navigation or sub navigation is in the sidebar or on interior pages.

Mistake: Slide Show on the Homepage - Study: Less than 1% of people were clicking on anything in the slideshow
Fix: Put something more static/stationary in that space or update the image on page refresh. #SpinRadio

Mistake: Huge blocks of content.
Fix: Spend more time on content organization. A well-organized site leads to a happy user. Every touchpoint along the way makes a big difference in conversions.

Mistake: Thinking of the homepage as the main entry point.
Fix: Focus on an ongoing content strategy. The blog and content are more of the entry point.

Mistake: Using hover effects.
Fix: Make sure you have a plan for that on mobile.

Mistake: Not having a way for people to contact you.
Fix: Add at least some way for people to get in touch with you and make it findable.
