We went to a bat viewing area at iron mountain in the U.P. . This was a opening to an old mineshaft that they had put metal grates on to keep people out and apparently there's a bunch of bats living in it and at does they fly out. Very cool to see.
As you can see this podcast varies from our travels to our tribulations.
One of those small tribulations was we were driving down the road and we heard a bang I pulled over and noticed the closet door was laying on the floor.
We visited the Mall of America in Minneapolis Minnesota this place is huge. It's touted as the largest mall in America and I believe it is. There's a couple of movie theaters couple of amusement parks a Legoland and tons of stores shopping and restaurants. We spent a couple hours there and suggest if you're traveling with kids plan on staying a day or two or three it is huge. One thing we learned is when driving through a big city like Minneapolis, you are driving in a big city. People drive more aggressively and they don't care Don't care if you are a lot bigger than them.
From now we went over to Eau Claire in Wisconsin. And traveling around on the bike and found some live music. I'm really liked eau Claire.
The next day we went over to Minnehaha State Park it's a really nice park that has a trail going down to the mighty Mississippi River at its headwaters. The night we stayed at redwood falls City Park for $24 for full hookups. Our plan was to stay at a Walmart but the temps were in the mid-90s and for us to run our generator for the 20 hours that we would be parked there the gas would have cost more than a campground. We had found this park a while back and had saved it on our Google maps here's a link to a video I made about how we plan our routes https://youtu.be/m17giRxNVs0
From there we went through Sioux falls South Dakota a cool little city with a waterfall running right through it. We then went out to the Badlands in South dakota. This was an awesome place to go hiking. It got super hot in the upper 90s again. But without the humidity we didn't really notice the heat. So we planned on a 8 mile hike and halfway through Trish was showing signs of heat exhaustion and dehydration. Thank God I am a nurse I got her into the tiniest little bit of shade that we could find. I took her day pack off of her and I put it on me. I had a son brim hat I took it off and I put it on her to keep her face and head in the shade. I gave her water to drink and she said it was making her feel like she wanted to vomit. She got real dizzy and fell to her knees at one point. I keep a super saturated cloth in a plastic bag when I hike and warm weather I took this out of the bag Trish said it felt like it was freezing cold the rag was probably around 80° or so. I doused her with water we took frequent breaks. I kept washing her face chest and back with water along with her hair, to keep her cool. The height took us 2 hours longer than we expected because of the frequent stops. But we got back to the rig safely I had Trish take a shower to help cool her body temperature she then said she was exhausted and fell asleep and took a 2-hour nap which she has never done in her life. The two of us were terrified during this ordeal. We were driving to Black hills Wyoming and we're driving on route 90. The wind was howling so much I was in the right lane doing 40 miles an hour just to keep the rig and it's lane. I saw her motorcycle driving straight up route 90 and he was leaning all the way to the right as if he was taking a right hand turn but yet he was going straight. We then made the obligatory stop at Wall drug. What a waste of time. The crowds. The stuff they were selling. And the line for the 5 cent cup of coffee which we didn't really want at 30 people on line for it.
We then finally got to montana. But our biggest surprise was at Mt Rushmore. We were told to visit it just before...
