Welcome to the not-so-subtle land of universal keeping up appearances and carrying the burden of expected conformist tradition - The early 1870’s in “liberated” America.
Heather and Sarah whole-heartedly agree that this movie is dreadfully, and excruciatingly spectacular, so at least there’s no aimless arguing in this episode (You’ll have to wait until the next one for that). The whole movie cinematically captures the intimate and not so intimate moments of desperate, unrequited love, all set within in a backdrop of duty and paying homage to a judging society that is quietly pretending not to watch. Martin Scorsese paints this film with such unabashed, blatant symbolism, when combined with the utter overweening cotillion of controlled appearances, it will make you utterly gasp.
Join us as we don a parasol, corset up, and restrain any and all sexual urges with aggressive politeness, witty double entendres, and only letting our emotions out to play at the Opera.
Trust me, after watching this movie, you will never look at a gloved hand the same!
