1569 refers to the Northern Rebellion (or Rising of the Northern Earls), an event tied to the excommunication of Queen Elizabeth I by Pope Pius V in 1570, and arguably the decisive rupture between the Church of England and the Catholic Church in communion with the Bishop of Rome.
