Echoes In A Shallow Bay – “Where music drifts, moods linger, and every song finds its place.”

I'm Heather Macias, host of Echoes In A Shallow Bay, originally from Los Angeles, California. Growing up in the 1980s, I found myself drawn to the darker, dreamier sounds of goth, dreampop, shoegaze, and alternative music. I loved the music, the atmosphere, and especially the experience of losing myself on the dance floor in clubs where those sounds came alive.

Over the years, I've listened to countless DJs play music I love, but I often found myself imagining what songs I would add to the mix. I would hear one track and immediately think of another that would complement it perfectly, creating a certain mood or carrying that feeling somewhere unexpected. Eventually, those thoughts turned into making playlists of my own, simply for the enjoyment of hearing songs flow together just the way I imagined.

That passion eventually became Echoes In A Shallow Bay.

Today, I create musical journeys built around mood, atmosphere, and the natural flow between songs. My shows bring together tracks that complement one another, sometimes familiar, sometimes unexpected, all chosen because they speak to me in some way. My hope is that they will speak to you, too.

Some of my favorite artists include Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance, and This Mortal Coil, but my musical tastes reach far beyond any one genre. While I have a deep love for goth, post-punk, alternative, dreampop, shoegaze, and ethereal music, I also love jazz, classical, world music, funk, and so many other styles. I'm drawn to music that moves me, surprises me, or creates a certain feeling, regardless of its genre. I don't like to put music into a box. I simply play what I love.

Echoes In A Shallow Bay is about creating a mood, following a feeling, and letting the music take you somewhere.

For this show, Echoes In A Shallow Bay - Episode 6, I selected melodic songs I naturally gravitate toward, the kind I love listening to when I want to unwind and get lost in the music. My hope is that these songs pull you into their own little world, where you can let go, drift, and simply get lost in the sounds.
