Publisher's Summary:
A collection of horrifying stories by the master, H.P. Lovecraft. Listen to the story of a curious tourist's confrontation with "The Beast in the Cave". In "Dagon", a naval prisoner escapes his captors... but to what? "The Statement of Randolph Carter" recounts the horrifying experience of two researchers. A group of thieves get more than they bargain for when they choose "The Terrible Old Man" as their next victim. And a student of metaphysics is eerily intrigued by "The Music of Erich Zann".
Critic Reviews:
"The five stories practically come to life as the words flow from the speakers. [Narrator] Sellin does a marvelous job of making each sentence breathe through his emotion and pitch.... Reminiscent of Poe and King, Lovecraft does a marvelous job in describing the fear of mankind and the desperate actions taken when succumbed by fear.... Eloquently produced." (Robert Denson, Sunpiper Press Book Review)

however he said he really liked it. Thank you
I bought this for a friend who is blind. He loves "creepy" stuff. I did not hear the book, so I cannot answer the questions, however he said he really liked it. Thank you.
Great stories told very well!!!
A very well put-together CD with some of Lovecraft's best stories. I'm looking forward to purchasing the second volume of this work!! Great quality in the CD as well with liner notes and info about the publishing company.
Setting the Stage
H.P. Lovecraft set the stage for many of the horror movies that were filmed later. Early Horror Works will keep you on the edge of your seat with tension as you anticipate what is going to happen next. If you enjoy terror, if you enjoy a trip through the unthinkable, if you ever had the slightest thought that you might enjoy mind twisting writing, this book is for you!
Imagination Required!
OK these aren't gruesome, bloody, horror stories - these are "Old School" stories of terror - where the victim's own mind is his worst enemy.
Five tales from H.P. Lovecraft, regarded widely as one of America's greatest writers in the Horror Genre.
Classic tales of the man who confronts a "beast" in a cave - but is it even real or is it his mind building on the local folk lore - "The Beast In The Cave"? Stories like this and my personal favorite "The Music of Erich Zann" which focuses on a student of metaphysics.
Eric Sellin's reading is clear and engaging - but he could benefit from a lesson from the greats maybe listen to a little Vincent Price or even Christopher Lee! LOL!
IT'S A BOOK, NOT TELEVISION
Other reviewers maybe unfamiliar with audio cd books, but I have listened to hundreds, and this book is certainly well comparable to others. It is well read, nicely inflected and easily understood. The early material presented here is interesting and effective. HP Lovecraft is the founder of modern horror and two stories, "Dagon" and the "Statement of Randolph Carter," leave you wishing the author would have written more! Dagon, at least, shows up again in a later work, and one of Lovecraft's best, "The Shadow Over Innsmouth." It must always be remembered when reading material of this sort that these were the first stories of their kind, and as such the reader maybe able to predict somewhat of what is coming, because you've read the subsequent stories that have built on these.
