As children of a loving Father in Heaven, we learned and grew from his teachings. We know that teaching continues in this life. We all have a right to receive Truth from our Father in Heaven. It can be discouraging to see the trials and tribulations forming on the horizon. Through faith in Christ, and reliance on his word and the word of his Prophet on the earth today, we can listen to the council God would have us adhere to, to be prepared and not fear, come what may.

Adversity comes from different sources. Trials may come as a consequence of a person’s own pride and disobedience. These trials can be avoided through righteous living. Other trials are simply a natural part of life and may come at times when people are living righteously. For example, people may experience trials in times of sickness or uncertainty or at the deaths of loved ones. Adversity may sometimes come because of others’ poor choices and hurtful words and actions. Suffering may also come through a loving Heavenly Father as a tutoring experience.

Recent events have shown some of us weak spots in our preparedness plans, both spiritually and physically. In the last General Conference we as a people were counseled to remember the divine advice from inspired prophets and apostles both past and present to "Prepare every needful thing".

We are seeing tolerance at an all time low in the world. Those with differing opinions are becoming increasingly polarized and contentions turn violent. Let us remember that we are commanded to "Love your enemies". As we disagree, let us do so boldly and firmly, but with love as well for our brothers and sisters who are also children of our Father in Heaven.
