Episode 13: Fieldwork Spooky Stories Part 2!
Hello everyone! In honor of Halloween here is part two of some of our more interesting experiences from the field.
The four stories today are some of our more harrowing ones. From almost sinking boats to strange encounters in Zion National Park! Sometimes simple mistakes from not checking the boats plug to poor time management can get you in some interesting situations!
Have you ever wondered where the numbers came from for dates such as the dinosaurs' extinction at 66 million years ago? Join us as we give an introduction to the geologic time scale, including relative and numerical dating!
Join Kayleigh and Kelsey as they continue their discussion on taphonomy and all the ways a organic material can be preserved into a fossil. They also discuss a current event that is happening in the museum world.
Join Kelsey and Kayleigh as they discuss how fossils form and the study of fossilization, or taphonomy. They also discuss body and trace fossils, our two main types of fossils you can find in nature. This is part one of two!
This week we are taking a small break from our educational episodes to talk about a couple experiences we have had in the field, whether we are out hiking or performing actual fieldwork! Join us to find out about the terrible tornado toilet, fire, floods, and getting lost!
Forgive the creaky chair! We are still working on audio quality and we promise it'll get better as we learn. Thanks for sticking with us!
To tie up the past three episodes that discuss igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks, we talk about the rock cycle and how these rock types are interrelated. We also talk about how humans play a part in this cycle!
Admittedly our favorite rock type, sedimentary rocks are the most common type of rocks found all over the world. Why are they our favorite? It's where we find our fossils, of course! Dive in and learn about how these rocks are formed and some common types.
Metamorphic rocks form under a lot of pressure and temperature and can be created from any other rock, whether it be igneous, sedimentary, or even another metamorphic rock! In this episode, we go over the basic types of metamorphic rocks and a brief overview of the environments they form in.
Do you love volcanoes? Have you ever wondered what the difference is between magma and lava? Take a listen as we dive deep into igneous rocks and how they are formed!
Join us as we describe some of the basic principles of geology. We hope you aren't too hungry! Cake will be mentioned a lot.
