Easter - John 20 - (4/5/2026)

Listen Later

The empty tomb stands as the pivotal moment in human history, transforming everything we believe about life, death, and eternity. This exploration of John's resurrection account invites us into three profound movements: believing in the risen Christ, seeing Jesus in our daily lives, and experiencing His peace. When Peter and John discovered the carefully folded grave clothes, they encountered evidence that demanded a response. We too are called to that same belief, not as passive observers but as active participants in resurrection life. Mary's desperate search for Jesus, her inability to recognize Him until He spoke her name, mirrors our own spiritual journey. How often do we miss Jesus in our midst because we're looking in the wrong places or expecting Him to appear differently? The beauty of this narrative is that Jesus makes Himself known to us, calling us by name just as He did Mary. When the frightened disciples huddled behind locked doors, Jesus appeared with the declaration of peace. This isn't merely the absence of conflict but the profound wholeness that comes from reconciliation with God. We're offered spiritual peace through justification, psychological peace that transcends understanding, and relational peace with one another. Unlike Sarah Winchester's futile construction project seeking peace through endless building, we find true peace only in Christ. The resurrection isn't just historical fact; it's the foundation for transformed living today. This sermon was first preached by Pastor Jason Mitchell at Springfield Church of God on April 5, 2026.
