Chris Stuart - Tyndale’s Plowboy

Easter: Mysterious Stranger - Luke 24:13-35

Listen Later

The central message of this sermon is that true hope can only be found on God's terms, not our own. The passage highlights how the disciples had a flawed understanding of the Messiah's mission, expecting a triumphant and powerful figure who would establish a kingdom without suffering or sacrifice. When Jesus' crucifixion shattered their expectations, they were left with no hope at all. However, this despair ultimately led them to be open to hearing God's truth, as Jesus explained the Scriptures concerning himself from Moses to the prophets. The sermon advances the belief that God's sovereignty and plan are not bound by human expectations or understanding, and that true hope is found in surrendering to His ways. The takeaway for listeners is that they too must come to terms with their own limited understanding of God's plan and be willing to learn and submit to His terms, rather than relying on their own preconceived notions of what hope should look like.
