Part 3 - Judas "Wrong Expectations and Missed Opportunities"

John 13:18-30 NLT

“I am not saying these things to all of you; I know the ones I have chosen. But this fulfills the Scripture that says, ‘The one who eats my food has turned against me.’I tell you this beforehand, so that when it happens you will believe that I AM the Messiah.I tell you the truth, anyone who welcomes my messenger is welcoming me, and anyone who welcomes me is welcoming the Father who sent me.”Now Jesus was deeply troubled, and he exclaimed, “I tell you the truth, one of you will betray me!”The disciples looked at each other, wondering whom he could mean. The disciple Jesus loved was sitting next to Jesus at the table.Simon Peter motioned to him to ask, “Who’s he talking about?”So that disciple leaned over to Jesus and asked, “Lord, who is it?”Jesus responded, “It is the one to whom I give the bread I dip in the bowl.” And when he had dipped it, he gave it to Judas, son of Simon Iscariot. When Judas had eaten the bread, Satan entered into him. Then Jesus told him, “Hurry and do what you’re going to do.”None of the others at the table knew what Jesus meant.Since Judas was their treasurer, some thought Jesus was telling him to go and pay for the food or to give some money to the poor.So Judas left at once, going out into the night.

John 6:14-15 NLT

When the people saw him do this miraculous sign, they exclaimed, “Surely, he is the Prophet we have been expecting!”When Jesus saw that they were ready to force him to be their king, he slipped away into the hills by himself.

Judas had the wrong expectations of Jesus!

Isaiah 55:8-9 NLT

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the LORD. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.

Judas allowed Satan to have a foothold into his life!

John 12:4-6 NLT

But Judas Iscariot, the disciple who would soon betray him, said“That perfume was worth a year’s wages. It should have been sold and the money given to the poor.”Not that he cared for the poor—he was a thief, and since he was in charge of the disciples’ money, he often stole some for himself.

Matthew 26:14-16 NLT

Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve disciples, went to the leading priestsand asked, “How much will you pay me to betray Jesus to you?” And they gave him thirty pieces of silver. From that time on, Judas began looking for an opportunity to betray Jesus.

Judas rejected salvation from Jesus!

John 6:64-71 NLT

But some of you do not believe me.” (For Jesus knew from the beginning which ones didn’t believe, and he knew who would betray him.)Then he said, “That is why I said that people can’t come to me unless the Father gives them to me.”At this point many of his disciples turned away and deserted him. Then Jesus turned to the Twelve and asked, “Are you also going to leave?”Simon Peter replied, “Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words that give eternal life.We believe, and we know you are the Holy One of God.”Then Jesus said, “I chose the twelve of you, but one is a devil.”He was speaking of Judas, son of Simon Iscariot, one of the Twelve, who would later betray him.

Jesus knew Judas would betray Him, but he still chose him!

John 13:21-30 NLT

Now Jesus was deeply troubled, and he exclaimed, “I tell you the truth, one of you will betray me!”The disciples looked at each other, wondering whom he could mean.

Don't walk away from your opportunity to accept Jesus Christ as your savior today!
