In early February 2025, I had a conversation with Rudi Tessman, who is an Electronics Systems Engineering student from Saskatchewan Polytechnic in Saskatchewan, Canada. He is also an electrician and recently visited Japan on a school trip.
EASY ENGLISH GRAMMAR POINT for EPISODE #10
For today’s episode, please listen to the way Rudi uses the relative pronoun “that”. In English we use the word “that” as a relative pronoun quite often.
For example:
“There are many people THAT travel to Japan.”
or
“My brother is the person THAT helps me the most.”
EASY ENGLISH USAGE POINT for EPISODE #10
The second thing I would like to focus on in today’s interview is how Kris uses the word “maximize” to describe the act of making the most of something. In English we use the words “maximize” and “minimize” as verbs to describe how we will increase or decrease the possible amount of something.
For example:
“I want to MAXIMIZE my English practice time to get the best results and speak better.”
COMPREHENSION QUESTIONS FOR EPISODE #10
* How old is Rudi?
* What was Rudi’s original career?
* What is happening more in Canada these days?
* What impressed Rudi about robotics in Japan?
* Does Rudi have small or large feet?
* What did Rudi find surprising about the temples and shrines?
* What did Rudi miss from Canada?
* Does Rudi want to come back to Japan?
* What does Rudi think about practice?
* What does Rudi say is important about practicing in sports?
