In early February 2025, I had a conversation with Reuben Norman, who is a Media Productions student from Saskatchewan Polytechnic in Saskatchewan, Canada. He recently visited Japan on a school trip.
EASY ENGLISH GRAMMAR POINT for EPISODE #11
For today’s episode, please listen to the way Reuben and Kris use the subordinate conjunction, “because” to explain a reason or cause for something.
For example:
“I went to the store BECAUSE I needed to buy some clothing.”
or
“BECAUSE public transportation is used so much, there is a greater effort to keep it clean.”
EASY ENGLISH USAGE POINT for EPISODE #11
The second thing I would like to focus on in today’s interview is how Reuben uses the word “warm” to describe friendliness. The adjective “warm” is most often used for temperature, however, there is another meaning in English that relates to friendliness.
For example:
“I got a WARM and welcoming feeling from the people in Japan.”
COMPREHENSION QUESTIONS FOR EPISODE #11
* What is Reuben studying in Canada?
* What does Reuben like more, photography or cinematography?
* Before he came to Japan, did Reuben think he would ever come here?
* What can you usually find on the streets in North America?
* What is Reuben jealous of?
* What does Reuben tell himself about pain?
* How do Reuben’s classmates and instructors walk?
* What did Reuben want more of on his trip to Japan?
* What did Kris want to eat when he first came to Japan?
* What does Reuben say is important about asking questions?
