This week we tackle La Bamba (1987) with the help of comedian and film connoisseur Melissa Rocha. This movie has it all, touching on the migrant worker experience in the central Valley of California, the multicultural origins of rock music, and the love/hate dynamics of sibling rivalry. It’s Chicano classic. Even though Lou Diamond Phillps and Esai Morales aren’t Chicanos, their performance got them honorary degrees from the University of Aztlán.
