Jesus condemns the pretentiousness of the scribes and their devouring of widows' homes just in time to look up and see a poor widow putting her last coins into the offering coffers. This leads him to speak even further regarding the outward adornments of the temple itself and their temporary existence. Lesson: Don't judge by what's on the outside!
