In this episode of TheEdTalks we continue along a little series on superfoods; the foods that stand out because of their nutrient density, healing properties and energising effects. In the last Energy Boost episode 14 we have covered the truly incredible food Spirulina which you can read more about here.
Today we are going to cover a so called superfood that I’ve heard a lot about in regards to energy, but something I'm yet to try - Cordyceps sinensis which are medicinal mushrooms. These funky looking club shaped fungi, that look like something out of a sci fi movie, are found in the wild sprouting from the body of caterpillars which ultimately results in the caterpillar's death. Traditionally they're found in the high mountainous regions of Tibet, Nepal and Bhutan however various cultivations are now occurring in other parts of the world. In the podcast I go into more detail of the reported benefits of Cordyceps sinensis and why the penalty of death became of anyone other than the Chinese royal family if found using them.
