EB22: Get an Energy Boost with Maca

Listen Later

In the last Energy Boost episode 21 I discussed the energy boosting and anti aging superfood known by many names but popularized as the Goji berry. This is definitely a very special berry that is well worthy of including into your diet in place of say sultanas as long as you are not pregnant or breast feeding. For a full list of how it can actually help you feel more energized as well as what to look out for when buying Goji berries, check out that episode here.

In this episode of TheEdTalks I discuss the so called "Superfood” maca, which is most often marketed as being a natural aphrodisiac that helps with fertility. It is a root vegetable that looks like a turnip and can be eaten like this, but in Western countries you usually see it in your health food shop or supermarket in powder form. It’s got a malty taste which I really like especially when added to smoothies and the science does actually seem to support the claim that it is a real deal aphrodisiac, increasing libido and vitality. But as always, have a chat with your healthcare practitioner before you start consuming maca as it may be unhealthy for your particular situation, especially if you are taking other medications or are pregnant or breast feeding.

In this episode you’ll discover:
  • The legend associated with maca and Incan warriors
  • Why it is considered to be so nutritious
  • How it effects libido and general wellbeing
  • Whether it can help with fertility
  • The benefits for menopausal women and prostate health for men
  • When you should be cautious of consuming maca.
