My story is about water pollution involving Duke Energy power plants. Located in Eden North Carolina along the Dan River. There was an insane amount of ash that was spilled into the dan river from an underground storm drains releasing liquified ash, metals, and coals into the once pristine river. Marine life was affected by the coal released into the river drying it up with ash and coal. The U.S. environmental protection agency came into place and by working on the side with Duke Energy started the setup for what will be the $3million cost cleanup to reduce the damage that was done by the coal spill. When various agencies and environmental specialists come together, the solution to hazardous waste and pollution can be carefully monitored and fixed. If we as a community cannot work together towards the better good of environmental issues, then there will not be a positive outcome for the animals and species whose pollution plays a crucial role in their very existence. The pro for the case is that if Duke Energy did not have faulty pipes, then the spill that took place on February 2nd of 2014 would not have happened. Duke Energy has had several negative effects on the Dan River.
