Ecstatic Dance

Listen Later

In this episode of the podcast Gavin talks about ecstatic dance, a global movement which came originally from the ‘five rhythms’ to take you on a journey of self-discovery, rather than in today’s world where people are more used to using substances and chemicals to get to certain states.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • On the dance floor there’s no talking or interruptions of any kind, it’s just you and the other participants. Some people do their regular dancing, but others feel their way into freedom. Ecstatic dance is possibly one of the greatest forms of self-expression.
  • When you’re on that dance floor there is no judgement to others, you’re meant to connect because you can’t talk with them, because you’re not meant to interact with them, there’s this kind of understanding, a created bond/connection. There’s no judgement. I always find something new.
  • We’ve got five senses. The biggest ones we use when dancing is seeing and hearing. Yesterday, I could hear the beat and the music being played by a live orchestra rather than a DJ, it was spectacular. What I learned is that when something did happen, my eyes saw and that was processed to my brain and I made a judgement, I acknowledged that and there was nothing against that person who was running and hopping around rather than dancing. I’m getting better at dropping my judgement, but I’d forgot to drop the judgement against myself, worrying about what people thought of me.
  • Before I hit the dance floor yesterday I asked myself what my intention was, and it was to release and relax, leave the grind behind and find the time to listen to my body, to hear my thoughts and to shake it all out. To remove judgement and toxicity and to get the body moving. It’s an amazing intention. I achieved all of that, no question.

BEST MOMENTS

‘I go to ecstatic dance to release and relax. Once you get out all that stuff that every day just grind you and binds to you, then you’re much healthier.’
‘Judgement on self is less helpful than judgement on others. First, we heal ourselves and then we can heal others. In order to not judge other people I need to stop judging myself first.’
‘Certain movements were working for me as I danced, I could feel them squeezing impurities out of my body, so I started to really embrace them and do them with more embellishment and creativity. It probably looked to other people that I was a creative dancer putting on a show.’
‘Ecstatic dance is great way to find the pathway of freedom and liberation of the self. True freedom comes from liberation from the ego.’

ABOUT THE HOST

Gavin Scott is a born entrepreneur with a passion for start up and scale up. He has over 20 years real estate experience in investment and development.

Gavin says: Over the years I have discovered that mindset is everything. Now, that might sound obvious, but it is! You see the number of awoken minds are very few in reality. Whilst acknowledging mindset is key it is absolutely different from utilising, influencing, impacting and effecting great change, for yourself, your loved ones, friends, colleagues and the wider public.

Why?

Like most of us I have had many ups and downs. I want to share the lessons learnt and promote a better environment for all, internally and externally!

How?

Through sharing my own experiences and hosting some fabulous individuals including some big household names to discuss key topics around mindset and the success formulas I hope the listener will become inspired to create space for change for betterment in their lives. I aim to inspire change by encouragement, not by force. I intend to inspire by education, not by regulation.
