We speak with Dr. Donna Elliot, Assistant Principal at Kempsville High School in Virginia Beach. She says that a shifting demographic towards greater diversity in the school division was the catalyst for increased cultural awareness in the classroom. Schools need to be aware that not all students fit a singular mold and there needs to be an understanding towards the needs of kids from different backgrounds.
