It’s January. A new year. We all know what that means. In this episode of the Eduspeakeasy Podcast, let’s talk resolutions.
I’ll share three big resolutions with you — mostly to keep myself honest. For two of these resolutions, it’s really obvious that I can’t complete them without working hard towards them every day. For the third, I need to remind myself to keep making progress every day.
Step inside the ‘Speakeasy and have listen.
I have a tendency to focus on the work; the stressful things that have to be done to get better. Let’s pause for a moment and think of the things that make us appreciate our job as educators.
It’s the end of another school year. Time for summer. Exciting, right? Well…
I know this sounds crazy, but I have some advice for the children of the world.
Kids, don’t worry, just because you failed out of tee ball doesn’t mean you’ll never have a job as long as you live.
Inspired by a recent quote shared by well-meaning adults, this is episode 8 of the Eduspeakeasy podcast: Uncoachable.
Gamification is an exciting means of engaging students in the learning process. But today I’m not here to talk about gamifying the classroom, but rather, gamification as a way of life.
I had a recent project and I looked for ways to challenge myself rather than just meet the basic requirements. I looked for ways to learn more than what was expected. This way, it would be, you know…fun.
It first occurred to me that I could have fun with things on my to-do list (also known as responsibilities) about a year and a half ago. I heard a story by video producer Simeon Quarrie, who shared a story at the FCP X Creative Summit in 2017 of how he tries to keep his career interesting.
Gamification is not new. Jane McGonigal gave a popular TED Talk in 2012 and has published a successful book and app to help people with various life problems. I’m suggesting we can gamify on any level, even the most basic day-to-day life events.
With the start of a new year, let’s talk about a new you. Stretch your comfort zone and put on your red pants. Let’s go.
I know it sounds exciting, but you’ll have to settle down to listen to this episode of the podcast. That’s right, it’s LMS madness!
As an educator who teaches technology I often get asked this question. I know the answer will surprise you, but tune in to episode 4 to find out how a 42-year-old man with over 15 years of teaching and professional experience can possibly stay ahead of teenagers.
We’ve all heard the statement from well-meaning friends of ours who are outside the world of education. In this episode, we’ll discuss the details of how we do it. Step inside the Eduspeakeasy.
The Radius of Excellence is a phrase I’m using to describe the very essence of what we’re trying to create for our students. Everything from the physical space we encompass, to the work we assign, and most importantly, the work we expect from them. Step inside for episode two and enjoy your stay at the Eduspeakeasy.
