Eight of Cups

Eight of Cups

Welcome to season 9 of this podcast, where I am talking all about the Suit of Cups. I’ll be going through each card in the suit, one per episode.

What we explore in this episode:

  • The Eight of Cups as a card of emotional departure, necessary endings, and spiritual quests

  • Symbolism across decks: turning away, cutting losses, and walking away

  • How to honor grief, clarity, and personal truth when the familiar no longer fulfills

Pictures from the decks I talked about today referenced from left to right:

  • The Sasuraibito Tarot deck by Stasia Burrington

  • The Desert Illuminations Tarot by Lindsay D. Williams

  • The Goddess of Love Tarot Deck: A Book and Deck for Embodying The Erotic Divine Feminine by Gabriela Herstik and illustrated by Julia Popescu

In this episode, the Eight of Cups guides us through the quiet ache of letting go. It’s not just about endings, it’s about choosing to move forward, even when there’s no guarantee of what’s next. This card reflects the sacred pause between loss and discovery, asking: What emotional truth are you finally ready to face? What dream, relationship, or version of yourself are you being asked to release?

Sometimes we stay too long, hoping things will change. The Eight of Cups offers us another option: the path of trusting that something more aligned is waiting, even if we can’t yet see it. Walking away isn’t failure, it’s devotion to your deeper becoming.

Today's Tarot Pull:

From The Citadel: A Fantasy Oracle by Fen Inkwright, I pulled The Dancer (upright). This card is about Self-Revelation and Confidence. The Dancer moves with elegance and conviction, but not without effort. It honors the strength it takes to trust your body, your path, and your intuition.

This card reminds you that even when you don’t feel ready, you can still move forward with grace. It asks: What part of yourself are you reclaiming through this departure?

Reflective prompts on this card:

  • What emotions have you outgrown, even if you once found safety in them?

  • Where in your life are you being called to make a brave exit?

  • How can you honor grief while still trusting your next step?
