Meredith Hawkins, M.D., professor of medicine (endocrinology) and director of the Global Diabetes Initiative at Einstein, discusses a study published in The Lancet (June 25, 2011) which reports that there were nearly 350 million adults worldwide with diabetes in 2008. Previous estimates had predicted the number would be 285 million. Dr. Hawkins discussed the study and the implications for the developed and developing world.
