Great book! Just the right one I needed for Spanish class.
Five Stars
Bought for a class and enjoyed the book. Arrived in very good condition.
From a Spanish teacher...
This is a wonderfully adventurous book that will entertain both advanced foreign language students, and native speakers alike. To be used in the classroom, the students will have to have a great deal of grammatical preparation. The book makes ample use of almost all tenses (both simple and compound), including the "Past Subjunctive." I recommend that it be used for Spanish III (advanced only), IV, and V students.
The author, José María Merino, gives the reader an insight into the world of the Spanish conquistadors, with ample regard given to the sentiments of two races: the Native Americans and the Spanish. The role of the protagonist, Miguel, being half Indian - half Spanish, will help students understand the cultural extremes of these two races, and what happened when these two worlds collided. This is the first book in a series of three. I also recommend books two and three: <> and <>
excellent story
an excellent first part of a 3-part story........ Miquel is on his first time away from home in this story of Mexico in the 1530's. Life is calming down a bit from the early conquistadors but there is still plenty of unfound gold and adventure out there waiting. Well-written and captivating from the first page.
I have all three stories and they are good enough to read once or twice a year to spruce up my very mediocre command of spanish.
