A Real Gem
The nightingale in this story is my favorite tragic heroine. Just as most things in life are easier than we expect them to be, the nightingale affords the human the equal of his hubris and sacrifices her life for their shared ideal. But love, like truth, is a shallow emotion in humans and all too often ends in waste, and in this case a wasted life. This story teaches charity, chivalry, and humility.
I love Oscar Wilde but this story is so sad
It is honestly hard to share my feelings on this. I love Oscar Wilde but this story is so sad. Yet does represent society sometimes. I try to keep a more positive outlook but can see how one can have a hard time and see life in this color of red.

Brilliant! Such a beautifully written account of the shallowness of the human heart. As we grieve and mourn that which we do not have, we most often fail to appreciate that which we do. The fantasy of the unattainable robs our focus and often cheats us out of the very thing at the core of our hearts' desires. Sadly, most of us carry on without even the knowing.
Unrequited love
Ahh the story of unrequited love. Someone willing to sacrifice themselves to see another happy, only to have done so in vain.
Tribute to Selfless Love
This classic allegory is a tribute to the beauty of selfless love and should be read and pondered by all.
